I am considering changing my major to Human Resource Management. I am a shy person though and I was wondering if a career in this would be good or not? I mean what would be a good personality for this job?

Any new job is hard when you're shy. Do you develope confidence after you get used to a job with other people? If not, look for something with less people contact. See a guidance counselor.

I'm in HR Management and I have heavy interaction with people all day. If you are very shy, it may be a little uncomfortable for you (unless you warm up after a few weeks). I was a little shy when I started my career, and being in HR actually helped me open up a lot more. HR positions can vary. Recruiting may not be your cup of tea since it's basically people interaction constantly, but payroll/benefits management may be a better option. Even then though, depending on how big of a company you work for, people will be coming to you for advice and questions. HR on all levels is based on communication. So if you're just shy "at first" and ease yourself into a job and gain confidence, then HR could be good. If you prefer less interaction with people on a daily basis, I would suggest looking at other options. Hope that helps.

Well when you work in an area such as human resources, a desirable candidate should have excellent people skills. It includes communicating, recruiting, hiring all of which require a individual to be talkative, agreeable, and somewhat outgoing so that you can relate to the variety of different personalities that you will come in contact with. It is a promising career choice and I don't think that you should limit yourself because you feel that you are shy. What is keeping you in your shell? Perhaps you should become more involved with those around you. Join a club or activity that interests you. That way you will be surrounded by people that share your ideas and passions and thus will allow you to open up more! Instead of searching for a job that will hide you, look for something that will open you up more!
