I see job postings for HR personnel all the time. And the pay is generally really good. On the other hand, there is stiff competition for marketing jobs. Not much job security either.

Have you tried looking at SHRM.org? (Society for Human Resources Management) They have loads of excellent resources. If you need this in a hurry and want to find something at a local bookstore, you could try "Human Resources for Dummies" which offers an abbreviated view of HR and it's cheap if you buy used on Amazon.com. Also, there's "Human Resources Jumpstart - The First Step Towards a Career in HR."
