Although you would think that People Skills would be top of the list of skills important for success in human resource management, my experience says otherwise. Most organizations simply see people as a commodity to be used to turn a profit and so the skills important for success in human resource management become more to do with organizational, persuasion and negotiation skills coupled with administration. http://www.career-consulting-limited.com/managing-people.html is a useful place to go for more info.

Some of the roles played by HR Manager are: -planning, e.g staffing -mediating, e.g industrial relations -auditing (monitoring), e.g performance management, compensation -co-ordinating, e.g managing health and safety -facilitating, e.g training and development In order to perform those roles effectively, the following skills might be useful: - communication skills: vertical, lateral - negotiation skills - interviewing skills - quantitative skills (for use in planning and decision making) - strategic thinking skills and understanding of: - the environment (includes political, legal, social) - the theoretical foundations of HRM - the linkage between HRM and other functional areas in the organization also: -EQ, IQ -cultural awareness, diversity Just my humble opinion.
