Human Resource Management - deals with providing a company with a workforce - including, hiring, firing, and benefits coordination. Production Management uses various resources - including humans, to produce goods and services.

2
Human resource management is the process of managing the personnel of the firm. It is the management of all aspects of employment within the firm to ensure that the firm meets its objectives. It includes recruitment and selection of appropriate staff and management of the employment relationship, which includes contracts, collective bargaining, reward systems and employee involvement, and considers the strategic and operational view of human resource requirements. Where as production management is simply the job of coordinating and controlling all the activities required to make a product

As in careers. What would it be like working in each area?

That really depends on the specific duties of the job. Either job could do neither or both. If you specialize in an area of HR like benefits, you would only deal with benefits all day. If you specialize in HR employee relations, you would do that all day. An HR generalist would do all areas of HR including employment relations. An employment relations person may also have the responsibility of all aspects of HR or it may be just dealing with employee relations.

Well- people who get hurt at work due to unsafe conditions or improper training go out on disability, correct? And the HR person coordinates disability leaves, claims against the company and keeps the legal records regarding accidents and incidence in the workplace. And that is the tip of the iceberg.

2
It is a requirement for all companies to follow the regulations from the Occupation safety and health administration (OSHA). Depending upon the size and organization of the company, this is handled by several areas. Many companies put all issues dealing with employee into the human resource department. Sometimes it is in engineering especially industrial engineering. HR often is responsible for health and safety since it directly affects the employee. Even in companies where there is others envolved, HR usually is at least a part of the safety committee.

Human Resource Management (HRM) should never be a driver in determining business strategy, but a case could be made that HR policies or constraints could hinder strategy, but only long enough to change the HR policy. Suppose HR has a policy to only hire applicants who are college graduates (they are an engineering firm). Management decides to embark on a new strategy of constructing some of the units they have designed. The HR policy would work for the construction manager, but not for the welders, pipefitters, electricians, painters, insulators, etc. that they wold need to complete such projects.

I would not let other people decide for me, or define who I am. Among the most "lucrative" opportunities available out there (say, among the highest paying jobs, professions, or entrepreneurial endeavors), which opportunity best matches your strengths. Which excites you the most? Which is something you seem to be cut out to doing your best at? One clue to what your true strengths and inclinations are, are the activities you've done successfully in the past... the achievements you enjoyed the most... the achievements you recall being most passionate about. It is difficult enough to succeed and be the best at any field. It is more difficult if you are not cut out for it, and especially if you are not happy doing it. When you do what you love, you are far more likely to succeed at it.

Job outlooks for human resource management seems promising. You do not need any background knowledge of business while in high school. You can start taking business classes in college. I majored in HR my first two years of college and i didn't know anything about business either when i first started college. You don't actually begin taking business courses until your sophmore year. Don't worry about the classes. You learn one step at a time. Yes pharmacy is harder and longer to graduate, but if it is really what you want to do, then go for it. Or, when you get into college, take a chemistry or biology course along with a business course and see what suits your interest more. College is about experiencing different fields of study. You're allowed to changed your major if you find something else that's better suited. Good luck

I don't think it's a very useful degree unless you're already employed at a firm in a top HR position to begin with. HR is a little different where they really don't care what your degree was in. You just work your way up and stick with it, you'll eventually be running the department.

Human resource management incorporates everything concerning personnel, so that someone with a degree can work as a manager in a personnel department. Human resource development is more specific. It focuses on improving personnel through training, selection, and other methods. The goals of human resource development are worthwhile for improving organizational productivity, whereas the goals of human resource management are more general and vague. However, many employers are impressed if you have any type of "management" degree, especially if you want a higher-level or higher-paying job. HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT: Human Resource Development is the framework for helping employees develop their personal and organizational skills, knowledge, and abilities. Human Resource Development includes such opportunities as employee training, employee career development, performance management and development, coaching, succession planning, key employee identification, tuition assistance, and organization development. The focus of all aspects of Human Resource Development is on developing the most superior workforce so that the organization and individual employees can accomplish their work goals in service to customers. Human Resource Development can be formal such as in classroom training, a college course, or an organizational planned change effort. Human Resource Development can also be informal as in employee coaching by a manager. Healthy organizations believe in Human Resource Development and cover all of these bases. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Human Resource Management (HRM) is the function within an organization that focuses on recruitment of, management of, and providing direction for the people who work in the organization. Human Resource Management can also be performed by line managers. Human Resource Management is the organizational function that deals with issues related to people such as compensation, hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration, and training.

Discrimination - Sexual, Age, and Racial. Obviously HR deals with the issues in all of the categories and must not use bias in those decision. Documentation- The decisions that are made in HR or by management often have later repercussions and documentation reduces risks. Environmental - HR is often in the discussions of management decisions and environmental issues have to be a part of the discussion. HR is usually the conscience of the company. Ethics itself - There is often pressure on the operation management to make decisions that sometimes have ethical issues. Hr has to be beyond that are be the voice of reason. Future - Again the operational management looks at issues often in short range. Building training programs, newspapers, cross-training, etc are often profit reducers and are pressured by budget constraints. HR has to explain the real issues and the future profit improvements to fight for their programs.

It is a good career but the field is tough to get into. You are responsible for a lot so there is a LOT of pressure. Stuff you will do in HR: hiring/firing, wage analysis, benefits, labor relations, employee orientation and training, and then there is the legal know how you have to be versed in. Schools...well, many universities now offer degrees specific to HR - so you can start your search there. Hope that helps

Well, generally the HR people have lots of meeting, generally to make work, for an already over worked office staff. When they are not in a meeting, they chat about the latest TV shows. HR is basically the most useless and costly area of any organization.

2
Human resources functions deal with the management and organization of employees. Human resources management is responsible for recruiting, hiring, firing, and training employees. It also develops and implements company policy. In many cases, developing the ideal human resources strategy requires assistance from outside the company. By making use of human resources consulting services like HGS, it is often possible to discover key elements that only an outsider would notice.

should i take the bachelor degree in hotel management or human resource management?
i have heard both pros and cons of both majors. now im having a real hard time to deside which one i i should take. my opinion is : Human Resource Management would get better salaries, but would it be required to get higher degree (MBA??) in order to get a good position in HRM and as well as a good salary?? also i've heard that you dont even need a degree to get a job in HRM? is that true? as for Hotel Management, i am not sure i'd like to deal with all kinds of custumers, i am not a very good at being patient. but would there be more job opportunities than HRM? anyways, i would go for the one with good salary and good job opportunties regardless of anything. any suggestions would be a great help to me now. thanks!

Human resource management possibilities outside the hotel industry, but skills you could use within it.

2
HRM is the one but you need to instill patience in yourself. It's a necessary quality. Hotel Management is OK but tends to be a job where you are waiting for an existing manager to retire or die. Also it's a 24 hour a day job, even if you're not on duty, you're still responsible.

3
Stick with the HRM unless you want your job to your life. Take from someone in the Hotel Industry.

4
Personally I'd take Human Resource Management. You might go into a career in Hotel Management and realize it just isn't for you. With Human Resource Management, you'd be much more marketable, and still be able to go into Hotel Management if you wanted to. As far as not needing a degree to go into Human Resources, that's only true to an extent. Many people who work in Human Resources don't have a degree, but their chances of moving up the corporate ladder and being promoted are not as great as someone who has a degree. One of my friends has a degree in Human Resource Management, and he got a position right out of Uni making 40K£ at a huge corporation. He says anyone without a degree could never get a job like that. My advice would be to get a degree in HR. Not only is it more versatile, but you'd certainly be more marketable in an already competitive field.

You should pick something that's going to make you happy. It's no use picking either one of them if your aren't going to love your job. A good salary is going to mean nothing if you don't like it. For hotel management, you need to have really good people skills. You have to be patient because you are going to be dealing with a lot of nasty people that you have to help and show concern for. Which job would you not mind getting up every day for?

A degree or certificate gets you an interview. Ability to do the job, as demonstrated during the interview, gets you the job. If you can't actually do the job, 20 degrees won't get you hired, but lack of paper might not be an obstacle - it depends on the company. (I've interviewed people who have no paper, but have experience. Having done the job for a few years tells me that they can do it, paper or no paper.)

Best in terms of what? Making money? Work environment? What do you enjoy doing? Dont chase a major for money, you will almost certainly regret it. There are other things besides money, like getting up for work and not wishing you could call in sick every day because you hate it.

Should i take the bachelor degree in hotel management or human resource management

Should i take the bachelor degree in hotel management or human resource management?
i have heard both pros and cons of both majors. now im having a real hard time to deside which one i i should take. my opinion is : Human Resource Management would get better salaries, but would it be required to get higher degree (MBA??) in order to get a good position in HRM and as well as a good salary?? also i've heard that you dont even need a degree to get a job in HRM? is that true? as for Hotel Management, i am not sure i'd like to deal with all kinds of custumers, i am not very good at being patient. but would there be more job opportunities than HRM? also i'd like to know if its possible/easy for a graduate who has no experience in HRM to start his/her career in HRM? anyways, i would go for the one with good salary and good job opportunties regardless of anything. any suggestions would be a great help to me now. thanks!

HR is a very competitive field to get into. You can start as an HR assistant somewhere and learn about it, but to really understand labor laws you need an education. There can also be a lot of recruitment involved with HR, as well as keeping employee morale up, and you deal with people all day long, so if you nor patient, that may not be a good choice for you either.

2
Human Resources - definitely. You will have a much wider variety of job positions available to you. Like most jobs you would probably have to start out taking an entry level position - possibly as an assistant in an HR department (try finding something to do while you are still going to school so you can graduate and already have a little experience).

3
I'd say Hotel Management because you can go into all sorts of fields in the hospitality industry and with so many competitors out there, they'll be looking for those degrees! The HR field does usually require an MBA to get the big bucks, and it takes quite some time to find a position because there are so many people with the same degree. Another consideration if it's an option for you? Get a degree in Business Administration. You can go anywhere with it.

I am a Human Resources Manager at my company. I do not have a degree in HR, though I do have a 4-year college degree. I have been in HR for almost 5 years now. I am 27, and got started in HR about a year out of college in an entry-level HR/Payroll assistant job. I wasn't making a lot of money at the time, but now I consider my salary to be adequate. I recently earned my SPHR designation, which is the preferred professional credential in the HR field. I would say that HRM will offer the chance for much more variety and upward mobility over Hotel Mgmt.

HR is my background so I can give you some good feedback since all of my HR management experience is in the hospitality field (hotels). You are correct in that you don't necessarily need an HRM degree to get into HR, although it is a plus but you will not get rejected for not having a degree specifically in HR. Just look on-line or in the paper, most HR ads require a Bachelors Degree in a related field (business administration) and/or at least 5 years of HR experience (that's for a Director's position). My advise is to get a BA in Business Administration with emphasis in HR & Hotel. As to the salary, HR positions pay more and do offer more advancement opportunities. Plus why limit yourself to Hotel Management when you can practice HR just about in any company. I noticed you commented on "not liking the idea of dealing with customers because you're not very patient" well let me tell you in the 10 years of HR experience I can tell you the field of HR is ALL about being patient as you deal with the littlest, insignificant issues that employees come to you with. You must listen to their needs and counsel them and this my friend requires patience. I loved working in the Hotel business, but in the HR department. I would personally prefer working M-F, day hours and had I taken on a different position, say Front Desk Manager, Director of Housekeeping, Restaurant Manager etc., I would be working odd hours, way too much stress within those departments and too many customer service issues to deal with. I was very happy in my little department with my two assistants. Hope this information has helped you decide.

Speaking as someone who's been a college instructor, subbed in the public schools, and has human resource training, let me say this. Many human resource departments have people who conduct training. For example, new employee seminars. Sometimes, you may have to update people on policy changes, a situation that has developed that people need to know about so it doesn't happen again. And you may conduct training sessions on benefit policies and options. In other words, within HR, there's training that's done. So your HR and teaching background would definitely fit in nicely here. Years ago, I interviewed for one of these spots, but at that time, I didn't have my HR Certificate. So I had the teaching background, but not the HR. Yet, they did seriously consider me and did interview me. And if you wanted to get out of the teaching realm entirely, you could look into jobs like HR Assistant or Generalist. These are the entry-level spots that are basically admin support--Admin Asst in the HR department.

You're not going to find job security in either one right now but at least the first one appears to be more focused (personnel), so perhaps less competitive. Where as, the second one is soooo vague; everybody and his brother is into business management.

It might be possible, you have to check with the school if they will allow it. This would be a difficult double major as the business curriculum core is extensive -- you would be required to take all the business prerequisites, business core, and then the major coursework in HR. Additionally, education majors have a similar extensive path of courses to take, as well as student teaching requirements. The two majors here have nothing in common so none of the required courses would be allowed to be shared in requirements. That's what makes it tough and sometimes schools forbid such double major combinations as there's a high likelyhood of washing out. Usually double majors are related in some way. For example, a double major in HR and marketing would work perfectly since they are in the same business core. Likewise, elementary education and art would go together because they are relevant to one another.

individual participative goal setting (PGS) is placed within the theoretical foundation of social cognitive theory (SCT). Based on this foundation, a cognitive-based self-leadership approach is suggested as a mechanism to enhance the PGS process and to achieve effective participation behavior. Propositions are described to serve as catalysts for empirically testing the applicability of self-leadership to goal-setting process a basic starting framework for a strategic human resource planning system. The framework involves several complex subsystems which require sustained effort and persistence in developing a workable model. The incomplete practices often used by organizations run the risk of reducing human resource planning to an unproductive management activity, instead of recognizing it as an important component in the total strategic planning process of a business.

HR is quite administrative - pay, grievance, hire, fire. TM is more seeking out specialised needs of a job that require certain skills and expertise. hence search for talents fr within or without. then another category - where within the service esp in civil service where the top scholars are being groomed into positions of responsibility and power. here assessment of talent is VIP. choosing the right candidate from among 10 to 20 officers to handle the crucial job

Development is the creating of HR or policies and management means it is already in place and being maintained. Look up the words in the dictionary or a thesaurus if you want better definitions but those are the jest of it. Hope this helps!!

3
human resource development -organized learning activities arranged within an organization in order to improve performance and/or personal growth for the purpose of improving the job, the individual, and/or the organization This is related to Human Resource Management -- a field which includes HR research and information systems, union/labor relations, employee assistance, compensation/benefits, selection and staffing, performance management systems, HR planning, and organization/job design

4
development is the focus in on training and optimizing work performance. Management is the focus on who you hire, who you fire and remediation to employees who need discipline and retooling to continue their employment. HR development would be a subset of human resource managment in larger organizations.

5
The difference can be found in the words. Developement is to grow and make more efficient (or better in laymens) To manage is to control. You can mix these together for your best business results. If you only manage, you likely will never grow, because development is required to create growth and make your business or office do it's best. You learn and grow, manage along the way. Hope this is helpful.

6
management is when you manage developed human(educated people) resource to a certain goal

7
human resource development is something thats about to come soon and your not sure of how it will react. and human management is when you have already started something its going good and you are the person who has the say so of what goes and what doesn't everyone has to have your approval when thy are about to do something or change you ideas.

I believe you are not receiving any response only because companies often dont follow a series of questions... Every company pretty much asks there own questions but they all (while worded doffrent) pretty much are the same. If you have done good in interviews in the past then yu will be fine. Just breath, go in their with confidence and carry yourself as professional as possible. Being in the HR field myself I could tell you somethings I ask when interviewing for higher up positions: - What type of change do you feel you could bring to our company. - How do you think you could reflect our policies and rules in a positive way? - What are the three things you are looking for from this company? - When put in this situation which do you hold of more importance, the employee or the policy? Hope those help... Be honost and youll do well. If you dont then that wasnt the right company for you. One thing to remember in the HR field is you truly have to be in a place (company) that fits your beliefs and morals... you cant enforce rules that you dont believe in...

I think we need a little more info to help you. You're going to be interviewing for an internship position. Specifically in what field of HR? Benefits/Compensation/Training, etc...that might help us answer your question a bit more.

I'm not much more experienced than you are since I am currently working on a Masters in HRM. In undergrad I only minored in business, but all of my electives were HR classes. I majored in psychology which I think has helped a bit. You may want to see if your school offers any psych classes that specialize in behavior or organizations. I'm currently interning for a hospital system in the HR department. You will definitely learn more from an internship than you will sitting in a classroom. So far it has only served to increase my interest in the field.
